FINE GAEL LAUNCH YOUTH MANIFESTO

Posted Monday, 21 May 2007

Speaking at the launch of the Fine Gael Youth Manifesto Young Fine Gael President, Elizabeth Munnelly, said,  "Fine Gael is putting forward positive solutions to many of the issues facing our generation. We have outlined comprehensive proposals on key issues such as Stamp Duty for first time buyers, improving mental health services, road safety, Education and alternatives to alcohol.

"Mental health is a particularly important issue which needs to be addressed. We have set out comprehensive proposals, which will challenge the stigma of mental ill health and provide support to sufferers. We will also challenge the permissive, harmful attitude to alcohol abuse in society and provide alternatives to alcohol for young people.

Fine Gael Youth Manifesto"The number of young people dying on our roads is the highest in the EU. We are proposing measures that will address this by enforcing the laws we have and increasing the number of speed cameras. We will improve driver training by introducing mandatory driving lessons, including a module on driver education during transition year and opening regional driver training grounds.

"Fine Gael will not re-introduce College fees when in government and we will halt the massive increases in College registration fees which have seen them quadruple under the current government. We are also committed to increasing grants and adding a customer service charter to management of the grants system.

"Fine Gael want to give young people clear reasons to vote in this election by offering them a change from the neglect of an arrogant government and a future where issues that matter to them are central to our agenda.
